How to Lead the Torah Service

This page uses pop-ups for the links to all the music files. You can arrange the pop-up windows to allow you to quickly move from one mp3 file to another.

Beginning of Torah Service

Begin with Ein Kamocha Va'elohim. Continue with Av Harachamim. As you sing, make your way to the ark.

Taking the Torah from the Ark

Standing in front of the ark, recite Vayehi Binsoa Ha'aron after the ark is opened. Once the torah is taken out, face the congregation and recite the sequence responsively beginning with the Shema (You will turn around to face the ark and bow for the last part of this sequence, at "Gadlu Ladonai Eeti.")

The Torah Procession

Sing Lecha Adonai Hag'dula (the middle paragraph on Page 123) together with the congregation as you lead a procession around the sanctuary. The procession ends with the torah at the bimah.

Chatzi Kaddish

The Chatzi Kaddish is recited after the last torah reading but before the maftir aliya is called up.

Returning the Torah

After Ashrei on page 133, begin The Yehallelu et Shem Adonai and sing along with the congregation. Sing The Mizmor l'David responsively as you lead the torah procession around the sactuary and back to the ark. In front of the ark, lead the ending sequence on page 136 that begins with The Uv'nucho Yomar.
