Dear Friend,

Since the return of our synagogue tour last year, I have been speaking about a Family Trip to Israel.  Many of us have begun discussing the possibility in earnest and while in Israel in February, I traveled around thinking about tour options and goals.  I see this trip as an incredible educational and growth opportunity.  Prior to the trip the Rabbi and I will offer several classes for adult level studying about Israel – its history and society.  Just recently, a group met with me to learn about Theodor Herzl, the founder of Modern Zionism.  More such opportunities will be presented throughout the year.

Students, who potentially will be traveling to Israel over the next 12-15 months, will be able to take a special mini course on Israel during their Religious School classes.  Members of next year’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah class will help design the curriculum as they determine their needs prior to a trip to Israel.

Finally, while in Israel I made contact with a 7th grade teacher who works in Rehovot.  She and I are planning to make email pen pals with families beginning in September.  Over the course of the year, we will design activities which her students and our students will do as we endeavor to develop a bond.  Clearly, one piece of our trip will include a visit with our new friends.

That being said we have several options available to us.  The basic information is:

  • This is a family oriented trip – our program will be designed with our children in mind.
  • There are three options:
    • February 15, 2006-February 23, 2006
    • April 22, 2006 – May 1, 2006
    • August 23, 2006 – August 31 (This is likely to be the most expensive option)
  • Cost will depend on which option is chosen.
  • While there will be free time on the trip, no one will be left on their own unless they wish it.
  • We will stay at four or five star hotels during the trip.
  • There will be plenty of opportunities to meet with friends and/or relatives in Israel.
  • Travel insurance is available.
  • The trip is open to non members of CBI.

If you are interested, please let me know by May 2.  If you have the opportunity, call or fill out the attached sheet and return it to me.  If you would like to talk to someone who has been on a congregational trip, let me know.

I hope to be with you in Israel shortly!

Sincerely,

Janice Colmar, Education Director
